The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health for Primary Health Care and Epidemiology, Raed Al-Shboul, said, "The Ministry of Health, within the framework of the national strategy for combating epidemics, is constantly following any developments related to viruses and epidemics in general in order to deal with them," according to the Jordanian "Kingdom" website.
Al-Shboul added, "The Marburg virus, which was detected in only two countries, according to the World Health Organization, is among the ancient zoonotic diseases."
He explained that the virus is transmitted to humans through infected animals such as monkeys and bats, and it is transmitted from human to human through direct and indirect contact with infected body fluids that include blood, urine, feces, vomit, saliva, and other fluids and respiratory secretions that contain the virus in high concentrations or through Contact with surfaces contaminated with the patient's body fluids.
The virus can be transmitted by exposure to one species of fruit bats or it can be transmitted between people via body fluids through unprotected sex and broken skin. The disease can cause hemorrhage, fever, and other symptoms similar to Ebola, which belongs to the same family of viruses. According to the WHO, there are no approved vaccines or antiviral treatments for Marburg, but early, professional treatment of symptoms like dehydration considerably increases survival chances
The virus is considered to be extremely dangerous. The World Health Organization (WHO) rates it as a Risk Group 4 Pathogen (requiring biosafety level 4-equivalent containment). In the United States, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases ranks it as a Category A Priority Pathogen
