 Southeast Asian leaders have agreed to tighten border controls and law enforcement and improve public education to fight criminal syndicates that are trafficking workers to other nations, where they are forced to participate in online fraud, according to a draft statement to be issued Thursday at the end of a regional summit.

 Former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan was arrested after being ousted in a vote of no confidence in April 2022, but he remains the country's main opposition figure, and his arrest represents the latest confrontation to destabilize Pakistan, which has seen the arrest of former prime ministers over the years and interventions by the Pakistani army.

 An outbreak of violence between members of the Kuki and Meitei ethnic groups in the Indian state of Manipur earlier this week left more than 50 people dead and 260 others hospitalized, hospital officials in the city of Imphal said.

The Indian army announced on Friday that five soldiers were killed in the Indian-administered area of Kashmir, in an explosive device attributed to rebels in the disputed region.

 Japan's Ground Self-Defense Forces have recovered what appeared to be the sixth body from the victims of an accident involving an SDF helicopter off the country's southernmost Okinawa Prefecture, local media reported.
