The United States warned Friday that a "Chinese surveillance balloon" had been spotted over Latin America.

The Colombian Air Force pointed to the monitoring of the airship on Friday morning and monitored it until it left the national airspace, stressing that it did not "threaten" at any time the security and defense of the country.

The army said in a statement on Saturday that on the third of February, "the national air defense system detected an object at an altitude of more than 55 thousand feet that entered Colombian airspace through the northern sector of the country, moved at a speed of 25 knots, about 46 kilometers per hour and has the characteristics of a balloon" .

The Colombian Air Force added that it was conducting "verification operations with various countries and institutions to determine the source of the object".

On Friday, the Pentagon announced that a second Chinese surveillance balloon was spotted over Latin America, the day after a similar balloon was spotted over the United States.

No details were revealed at the time about the location of the second balloon or its trajectory.

On Saturday, the US military, on the orders of President Joe Biden, shot down a Chinese airship that had been flying for days over the United States.
