This morning, Brazilian voters went to the polls to participate in the runoff round of the presidential election, which is witnessing a clear polarization, as the current president pledged to protect conservative Christian values while the former president promised to return the country to a more prosperous past.

The runoff has developed as a close contest between right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro and his political opponent , former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, two popular and divisive political figures who arouse passion as much as hatred.

The vote will reveal whether the fourth largest democratic country in the world will remain on the same path of right-wing politics or return the former leftist president to the presidency and, in the latter case, whether Bolsonaro will accept defeat.

More than 120 million Brazilians are expected to cast ballots, and because voting is conducted electronically, the final result will usually be available within hours after polling stations close in the late afternoon.

In the first round held on October 2, da Silva came in first place among 11 candidates with 48 percent of the vote, while Bolsonaro took second place with 43 percent, which showed that opinion polls significantly reduced the president's popularity.

Many Brazilians support Bolsonaro's defense of conservative social values , and he has boosted his popularity through massive government spending.

However, political scientist Rodrigo Brando said that this campaign is so atypical that Bolsonaro's victory cannot be ruled out, the president has the support of the governors of the three most populous states, and politicians
