After Argentina's Vice President Christina Kirchner, 69, ruled the country for two terms from 2007 to 2015, the prosecution requested Monday to sentence Kirchner to 12 years' imprisonment and deprivation of her from running for life in a case of fraud and corruption related to the granting of contracts in her Santa Cruz stronghold

Following this, Saturday organized new demonstrations of support for Kirchner, including a rally near her home in Buenos Aires, which was marked by light clashes with the police after the prosecutor's office requested a sentence of imprisonment in a corruption case during the current week.

Thousands of demonstrators gathered without clashes in the towns of Tucumán, Cordoba and Bahia Blanca

Other gatherings are expected in Noquin, Catamarca and San Luis, as reported by local television channels and the State news agency "Tillam".

There were light clashes in the evening between police and Kirchner's left-wing Peronist supporters.

As every night, hundreds gathered and chanted from non-stop to late hours, chants including "Cristina is President" and "The people love Cristina".

Police used tear gas and water cannons. However, the demonstrators were able to approach the Vice President's building. At the beginning of the evening, when calm returned, they seemed determined to stay up again.

During the clashes, 12 police officers were wounded by stones, according to the mayor of Buenos Aires Horacio Larita.

Christina Kirchner briefly appeared on the street to greet her supporters. She spoke to demonstrators accusing the municipality of Buenos Aires and its police of "wanting to prevent people from expressing their views".

But she invited them to "go and rest a little bit, because the day was long." Before she left, she said, "I love you, you're all my sons."

The mayor had just asked her to "take responsibility and call on the protesters to withdraw peacefully and return to their homes".

He also denounced the demonstrations of support that had been transformed during the week into a "permanent camp" and an "orderly occupation of public places" that hindered the normal functioning of the neighbourhood.

He also noted that the police "prevented the clash between opposing groups" on Monday evening when Kirchner's supporters and opponents gathered spontaneously in the same place.

Dozens of rallies or rallies were held in support of the Vice-President in several cities in Argentina at the initiative of movements or organizations involved in the Central Left ruling coalition "Frant de Todos" or Kirchner's Peronist party

Kirchner is a popular and divisive figure, still influential in Argentine politics, and launched a strong counter-attack the next day denouncing the rule as political.

Its defence case begins in early September, with the judgement being issued at the end of 2022.
