On Friday, the Peruvian government launched a dialogue with representatives of agricultural workers who demonstrated throughout December to seek a raise in their wages.

The Cabinet announced on Twitter that a "dialogue committee" had begun its work in Trujillo, the capital of the La Libertad region, about 500 km north of Lima.

The ministers of labor, agricultural development and foreign trade, as well as the governor of La Libertad, held discussions with labor representatives and local lawmakers.

After seven hours of discussions, the participants decided to prepare within 45 days an amendment to the agricultural law passed by Parliament on Tuesday, which angered agricultural workers.

And at the end of December, hundreds of workers blocked a major road in northern Peru to support their demands, and three civilians were killed during clashes between protesters and police. After two days of roadblocks and clashes, the Pan-American Highway has opened and is still under police surveillance.

The demonstrators demanded that agricultural export companies increase their daily wages from 11 to 18 dollars per day. But the law, which was adopted, stipulates a daily salary of $ 13.
