Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the state of Qatar, have agreed to launch an initiative to support the Sudanese people.

A statement issued by the Egyptian Presidency read: “Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held a telephone call with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the state of Qatar, where the contact discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, support and development in various fields, in addition to reviewing the latest developments in regional and international situations, especially in Sudan.

The official spokesman of the presidency of the Republic, adviser Ahmed Fahmy, said that”the two leaders stressed during the call the importance of intensive work to contain the humanitarian situation in Sudan, facilitate the flow of relief aid and spare civilians the consequences of the fighting.

He added:”in that context, they agreed to launch a joint initiative to support and relief the Sudanese people, aimed at mitigating the effects and repercussions of the current crisis on the Sudanese brothers, especially refugees, through the provision of humanitarian and relief services to them, provided that the concerned authorities in the two countries develop the relevant frameworks and executive mechanisms.
