Drug smuggling from Iraq to the kingdom is rare, and usually reaches the country through Syrian territory. The Kingdom confirms that 85 percent of the drugs seized are intended to be smuggled out of Jordan, especially south to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states.

The Gulf countries, especially Saudi Arabia, are the main destination for Captagon pills, which are easy to manufacture drugs. The United Nations Office on drugs and crime classifies it as "one of the types of stimulating amphetamines," usually a combination of amphetamines, caffeine and other substances.
The manufacture of Captagon is not new in the region, and Syria is the most prominent source of that substance since before the outbreak of the war in 2011. However, the conflict made their manufacture more popular, used and exported. Captagon pill factories are also active in several areas in neighboring Lebanon.
