In an attempt to seek to overcome the crises plaguing the Middle East region, the Jordanian capital Amman is hosting the "Baghdad 2" conference with the participation of many pivotal countries in the Middle East, including the regional rivals in the region, namely Saudi Arabia and Iran

The conference will be attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, EU foreign policy official Josep Borrell, who coordinates the Vienna negotiations on the Iranian nuclear file, and EU coordinator for these talks Enrique Mora.

The conference will also be attended by the foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia, the secretary-general of the league of Arab states, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council and a number of other Arab foreign ministers.

"The aim of such a meeting is to bring Iraq's neighbors and partners around the table in an attempt to move forward by strengthening dialogue,"the French presidency said.

But it remains a risky bet in an already unstable region . Iran is witnessing the suppression of popular demonstrations, while Iraq recently reached a fragile settlement after a political crisis that drained it for a year. Syria remains an arena of confrontations between rival forces, while Lebanon is mired in political paralysis due to a presidential vacuum, among other regional crises.

The conference aims to"provide support for the stability, security and prosperity of Iraq, and studied the situation in the entire region, as Iraq is a pivotal country in it".

The Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, stressed that the Kingdom stands shoulder to shoulder with Iraq to maintain its stability, preserve its sovereignty, support its development efforts and restore its historical status.

In his speech during the Baghdad Cooperation conference in Jordan, the Saudi official said that his country supports Iraq and stands with it to restore its historical status as a land of civilization, science and knowledge and to advance it to a new stage that advances its national interest over any other considerations.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Monday that the regional summit could be an "opportunity" to move talks on reviving the nuclear agreement, which have been stalled for months.

It is necessary to examine Iran's position as the "Big address" because its hand "is everywhere, from Iraq to Syria, passing through Lebanon and Yemen".

The conference is a test for the new Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani, whose appointment came after a political deadlock that lasted for more than a year.

The meeting is also expected to address common issues such as climate warming and food security, as well as regional cooperation in the field of energy.
