AFP quoted the IDF as saying it was "preparing for a week-long air operation on Gaza", denying any current negotiations with Islamic Jihad on a ceasefire.

In response to whether the Israeli army would target Hamas during its operations, Koukhav replied that "this operation is aimed at Islamic Jihad, but we are prepared for any scenario and are ready if necessary to launch a large operation".

In response to the attack, Jerusalem Companies, the military arm of Islamic Jihad, announced that some 100 rockets had been fired at Israel in response to the killing of Ja 'abari.
