After being convicted of acts involving the filming of female soldiers in special situations over the course of two years, an Israeli military court sentenced an army officer to 18 months' imprisonment.

The Israeli military prosecutor initially charged 81 charges, but the number was reduced with the officer's guilty plea.

Yedayat Ahronot reported that Officer Rum Abergill had pleaded guilty to 45 counts of indecent acts and attempted sexual harassment.

The site added that some 30 recruits had been identified as victims of the officer's actions.

According to the news site, the military prosecutor's office initially demanded 3 years' imprisonment, but the sentence was subsequently reduced.

In court, the officer apologized to his victims and said that he had not sought to post the images to others, with investigators finding more than 1000 photos and videos on his own devices.

In addition to the prison, the Israeli military command ordered the current rank of lieutenant to be removed and relegated to a lower rank.

In the opinion of the Military Prosecutor's Office, deterrence in such cases is needed, after repeated crimes that "tarnished" the image of the army, last year.
