Although the Palestinian elections represent a long-awaited 15-year benefit and an opportunity to chart a new reality and end the internal divide, current indicators are accelerating the scenario of postponing those elections, which are scheduled for the end of next month.
This postponement is due to various reasons, primarily the "Israeli position on the holding of elections in Jerusalem" and the faltering European mediation efforts to date.
While the problem of voting in Jerusalem is regarded as one of the reasons put forward by the pro-postponement parties, who reject alternative voting proposals, observers speak in parallel of other political reasons that reinforce those demands, primarily the internal divisions and power balances associated with the elections.
Tomorrow, Thursday, a crucial meeting of the Palestinian factions is scheduled to be held, at which the electoral postponement step due to the "vote in Jerusalem" crisis is expected to be announced, as reported by Palestinian and Egyptian officials, who spoke of a planned decision by the Palestinian Authority, Thursday, after the factional meeting to postpone the elections.
