Tunisia's recent meetings have seen disagreements over the upcoming presidential election, which many hope will bring the country to safety. It seems that the organization of the brothers in Libya has recently begun to trigger a new political crisis.
Libya has launched a United Nations-sponsored political process aimed at reuniting the country, divided since 2014 into two governments in the west and one in the east, in order to lift the country into chaos following the overthrow of the regime of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Indeed, the United Nations has succeeded in persuading the Libyan parties to reach the formula of a transitional Government of National Unity headed by Abdul Hamid Debiba, whose task is to prepare the ground for the upcoming elections in December.
The talks between the Libyan parties are currently aimed at agreeing on the way to select the President of the country in the upcoming elections.
The brothers insist that the new President of Libya be chosen by the vote of the deputies and not by direct popular vote.
According to political experts in Libya, the Brotherhood's organization realized that its popularity was virtually non - existent and that direct suffrage from the people would contribute significantly to the toppling of their candidate or anyone supporting him in these elections.
Libyan political analyst Maya al - Thalib said that Islam's political parties were most afraid of holding elections by direct vote of the people after their popularity had diminished dramatically within Libya, since they had only some tribal enclaves that could not affect the elections.
The organization of the Brotherhood might find an opportunity from elections through the House of Representatives to contest the presidential seat, in twisted ways that it had previously taken on many political entitlements.
The President of the Libyan Media Foundation, Mohamed Baayu, called on Libyan citizens to uphold the direct election of the President, and "not to follow those who have tampered with the people for 10 years."
In press statements, Baayu said: "A President who is not elected by the people will be neither a head of State nor a symbol of sovereignty nor a servant of the people, but a servant of a gang, a symbol of powerlessness and a guardian of corruption."
