At a press conference in Riyadh, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan announced an initiative to end the crisis in Yemen, which has entered its seventh year.

Ben Farhan explained that "we want a comprehensive ceasefire in preparation for political dialogue and the ball now in the Houthi Stadium."

"So far, there is no sign of the Houthis' desire for peace," he added.

The Saudi Minister for Foreign Affairs continued: "The Kingdom is coordinating with the United Nations to put an end to the crisis in Yemen."

At the same time, Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed that Iran's interventions were affecting the situation in Yemen, noting that the Kingdom maintained its right to defend itself in Yemen.

The initiative included opening Sana'a Airport to direct flights, both regional and international, and allowing the import of fuel and foodstuffs and then beginning consultations between the Yemeni parties to find a political solution to the Yemeni crisis under the auspices of the United Nations, based on the terms of reference of Security Council resolution 2216, the Gulf Initiative, its operational mechanisms and the outcome of the national dialogue.

The Houthis called for the interests of the Yemeni people to be chosen rather than the Iranian project in the region.

The Saudi Foreign Minister stressed that the initiative would take place under the auspices of the United Nations.

That initiative was in support of the efforts of the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffith, the United States Special Envoy for Yemen, Timothy Linderking, and the positive role of the Sultanate of Oman.

The spokesman for the coalition forces in support of legitimacy in Yemen, Colonel Turki Al Maliki, and the Saudi ambassador to the Yemeni government, Mohammed Al Jaber, also participated in the press conference.

Al-Maliki stated that the ceasefire in Yemen was conditional on the acceptance of the initiative by all parties.
