The head of the Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases in Germany considered that his country's successful handling of the first wave of the Coronavirus pandemic in the spring has led many to question the extent of the virus’s seriousness or even its existence.
Lothar Feller described the result as the so-called "prevention paradox", and said that this means that many are now failing to deal with social distancing and quarantine seriously enough, which led to a sharp increase in the second wave of cases now taking place in Germany.
As more people are exposed to the disease, either directly or in their immediate environment, he said, he expects the level of compliance with social distancing guidelines to increase.
The data of the Robert Koch Institute showed today, Thursday, that the number of confirmed cases of corona in Germany increased by 22046 cases, bringing the total in the country to one million 106 thousand and 789 cases, while the country recorded 479 new deaths, bringing the total number to 17,602 deaths.
