A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the bodies of three people were found in the city, while three injured people were taken to hospital after a truck "tried to run them over," Nottinghamshire Police said in a statement.

British prime minister Rishi Sunak called the incidents "shocking". He tweeted: "I would like to thank the police and emergency services for their response to the shocking incident in Nottingham this morning. I am up to date with developments. "The police must be given the necessary time to do their job.

The police were called for the first time at four in the morning (03:00 GMT) to one of the streets in the city center, where two people were found dead, and then to another place "where a truck tried to run over three people," who are currently being treated in hospital.

The police also announced that a man had been found dead on another street in the city.

Kate Meynell of Nottinghamshire Police said in a statement: "This is a tragic and horrific incident. "We believe that these three incidents are connected, and we have arrested a man,"she added. "This investigation is in its early stages and a team of investigators is working to determine exactly what happened,"she added.

Earlier, police had reported that a" serious incident " had occurred in Nottingham, about 200 kilometers north of London. Photos and videos posted on social media sites showed a large deployment of police and security barriers blocking several streets in the city center, fire trucks were distributed and liaison officers responsible for coordinating the work of many emergency services were deployed.

Police official Neil Humphreys urged residents to avoid the area ,as"these roads are expected to remain closed for some time". The tram network said it had suspended all services "throughout the city and suburbs".

The counter-terrorism police have been asked to help with the investigation, but there has been no official announcement describing the incident as terrorism-related.

According to one eyewitness, the two people who were stabbed in Ilkeston Road were "a girl and a guy or a boy" who "looked very young".

Another eyewitness, who saw a man and a woman hit by a truck, said: "the woman was sitting on the sidewalk - she looked fine. The man was lying down, but he got up".

The British Prime Minister's official spokesman, Rishi Sunak, said that the latter was informed of these incidents "early on Tuesday morning".

"This is a direct police investigation," he told reporters, adding that he did not have much to say about the incident, but assured the media that both the prime minister and interior minister Suella Braverman were "closely monitoring the latest developments".

Nottinghamshire Police Commander Kate Meynell described the incidents as a "series of tragic events".

"We are still in the early stages of the investigation and we have to determine the motives for these attacks and we will update the public as soon as possible,"she said.

She pointed to the openness in the" investigation of the circumstances surrounding these facts, "stressing cooperation with the"anti-terrorism police to clarify the facts, which we usually do in such circumstances".

The three MPs representing Nottingham Nadia wittom, Lillian Greenwood and Alex Norris expressed solidarity from the families of the dead and injured.

In a joint statement, they stressed that Nottingham is a beautiful city with bright people from different backgrounds, " expressing their shock at what I witnessed.

They stressed the need to address what happened "collectively and United".
