French firefighters urged citizens to stay away from the area on the southern outskirts of Paris, following a fire in a warehouse in the huge international market of Rungis on the
outskirts of Paris, which provides the French capital and surrounding area with much of its fresh food, and is the largest of its kind in the world.
Paris Fire Brigade spokesman Mark Le Moa said the fire had caused no injuries, noting that the fire had been brought under control, and there was no risk of it spreading from a storage area the size of the football field, covering an area of 7 thousand square meters.
The sprawling Rungis Wholesale Market is a real city in itself, employing more than 12 thousand people and featuring warehouses filled with fruits, vegetables, seafood, meat, dairy and flowers, from all over France and the world.
