A British court heard a smuggler accused of smuggling rare snakes worth $75 million, but does not remember where he hid his profits because of his dementia.

The smuggler Gilbert Khoo (67) found it "extremely difficult" to remember where he had hidden the profits of his smuggling operations.

Khoo, from the British region of Chessington, boasted about his fortune after posting a picture with gold bars, originating in the profits of his smuggling operations, which he had carried out for 3 years, smuggling small snakes into the Far East.

Khoo was convicted of animal smuggling last March and sentenced to two years' suspended imprisonment.

However, prosecutors said the assets had "disappeared," noting that Gilbert Khoo did not remember where they were.

Khoo's lawyers stated that their client diagnosed him with dementia, highlighting that he could not locate his profits.

Following this, Judge Jeffrey Bigden QC adjourned the hearing at Southwark Crawn Court in South London: "The money must be somewhere."
