Artillery was fired all over Britain, this afternoon in honor of Prince Philip, the husband of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 99.

The artillery sounded at 12:00 noon in the first 41 rounds, from the Tower of London on the banks of the Thames and the palaces of Edinburgh and Belfast, and in the British enclave of Gibraltar.

Honorable shots were also fired from ships of the Royal Navy, where the Prince served during World War II.

Prince Philip, 99, left our world at Windsor Castle in Parkshire, south-east England, one of the official residences of the British ruling family.

The Duke of Edinburgh married Queen Elizabeth II 5 years before her accession to the throne (in 1947), when she was Crown Prince, during the reign of her late father, King George VI.
