Today Wednesday, a Turkish court sentenced 22 soldiers to life imprisonment for their role in the attempted coup d'état in Turkey in July 2016.
The former military reportedly belonged to a group of 497 suspects who had all served in the Republican Guard and were being tried in cases of attempted coup.
It should be noted that the trial began in October 2017, and there were 243 hearings, noting that the accused included former soldiers in the Presidential Guard.
The prosecution claims life imprisonment for 90 accused and lengthy prison sentences for several others.
Ankara accuses the "Gulen" organization of standing behind the failed coup attempt that took place in July 2016, after several attempts to penetrate State organs, particularly security institutions and the judiciary.
Following the attempted coup d'état, the Turkish authorities detained some 80,000 persons on trial and issued dismissal or suspension decisions against some 150,000 staff and military personnel. Ankara expelled more than 20,000 elements from the army.
