The Finnish government has urged the relevant authorities in the country to increase the flow of immigrants from the current 16 a to 25 a annually by the year 2030.
According to the Government's report on demographic development: "The potential objective could be to increase net immigrants to 25 by the year 2030. Currently, that number is 16,000 people a year. "
The report explained that "without immigrants, Finland's population will decline. The sharp decline in reproduction weakens the Government's financial base and increases social inequality. "
The birth rate in Finland, with a population of 5.5 million in 2010, fell by one quarter, and the percentage of older persons was one of the highest in the world.
The authors of the Government report noted that during this period, the country's reproductive rate on average fell to less than 1.4 children per woman.
