A young man in his 20s attacked eight people with a "sharp body," seriously injuring two in the Swedish city of Vilanda, Swedish police said.

The attacker was taken to hospital after being shot in the leg by police while trying to arrest him, following the attack in the southern Swedish city.

In a statement, the police said they originally treated the incident as an "attempted murder," but changed this notion to a suspicion of a "terrorist attack."

The Swedish police have indicated that the attack is now being investigated by the security forces as a possible "terrorist crime," pointing to the fact that the attack was not killed. The police decided to hold a press conference later.
