The Belarusian government has announced the start of the operation of the first unit in the country's first nuclear power plant with a capacity of 100 percent.
And the Belarusian Ministry of Energy confirmed, according to the official Belta agency, that the first unit in the plant had almost reached the scheduled operating level.
The ministry stated that the tests are still continuing at the station, and after its completion, all devices and systems in the unit will be examined over a period of 15 days with 100% operating capacity, then the unit will start economically.
The thermal power of the unit reaches 3200 MW, while its electrical capacity is 1170 MW.
The first unit of the two-reactor plant, located near the city of Ostrovitz in Grodno County, is scheduled to enter service in 2021, and the second unit will be operational the following year.
The total capacity of the plant's reactors, which was built on a Russian project, is 2,400 megawatts.
