The Russian government invested an amount of 2 billion rubles (about 29 million dollars) to restore the palaces of the Crimean Tatar rulers in the historic city of Pakhtisaray.
These palaces are the only example of Crimean Tatar architecture in the world. A spokesman for the Ministry of Culture in the Russian Republic of Crimea stated that the restoration of palaces will be completed by 2022.
Restoration work is currently underway in 8 of the 16 historic structures of the Architectural Complex. An agreement has been signed to restore 8 other facilities.
The architectural complex occupies an area of about 4 hectares. The complex, which was the seat of the rulers of the Crimean Tatar Khanate in the 16th - 18th century, includes rare examples of Islamic architecture for the Crimean Tatar people, although the headquarters of its khanates was more than once destroyed and looted.
After the 18th century, the Winter Palace, three of the four harem buildings, five marble baths, and palace vessels had yet to be preserved.
The architectural complex currently includes 16 historical installations of federal importance that represent the Islamic cultural heritage of the Crimean Tatars.
It is noteworthy that the great Russian poet, Alexander Pushkin, visited the beginning of the nineteenth century Bakhchisaray and its palaces, where he created the poems "The Fountain" "Bakhchisaray" and "The Palace of Bakhchisaray".
Historians believe that this visit helped preserve the historic city and its ancient palaces.
