Suicide bombing near Afghan Foreign Ministry in Kabul

"An explosion occurred today on the road leading to the Ministry of foreign affairs, resulting in the death of five civilians and wounding a number of others,"said Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran.

Agence France-Presse driver Jamshid Karimi said earlier: "I saw between 20 and 25 victims. I don't know how many people were killed or injured,"he said. "I saw a man blow himself up,"he added.

Police spokesman Khaled Zadran said that the explosion occurred at about four in the afternoon local time, noting that the security forces implemented a security cordon around the targeted building.

The Taliban-run government is facing an insurgency by Islamic State militants, who in recent months have targeted key facilities such as the embassies of Russia and Pakistan and the former prime minister's office.
