During a conference in Geneva hosting officials

Information Minister of Pakistan Maryam Aurangzeb said on Monday that her country has received financial pledges totaling 8.57 billion dollars to help it recover from the impact of floods from about 40 countries, along with private donors and international financial institutions, at a conference currently being held in Geneva،

Prime minister Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan needs eight billion dollars over the next three years.

The minister of information said on Twitter that the pledges amounted to 8.57 billion dollars.

Among the donors are the Islamic Development Bank, which pledged 4.2 billion dollars, the World Bank, which pledged two billion dollars, the Asian Development Bank, which pledged 1.5 billion dollars, as well as the European Union, China, France and the United States.

A senior official from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) said Washington would provide an additional 100 million dollars to fund Pakistan's recovery from last year's devastating floods.

Last year's floods, caused by record monsoon rains and melting glaciers, killed at least 1,700 people and displaced about eight million people. The additional funding is necessary for Pakistan amid growing concerns about its ability to buy imports such as energy and food and meet sovereign debt obligations abroad.
