The Sant'Egidio group, the Italian Catholic foundation, said today, Tuesday, that parties to the conflict in South Sudan have reached a new ceasefire agreement and are committed to continuing peacebuilding.

This religious authority stated in its statement that “after difficult months and the inability to leave the country due to the spread of the Coronavirus epidemic, the delegations of the Government of Southern Sudan, the opposition and all parties to the conflict have gathered, these days, again in Rome, at the headquarters of our group.”

She added that "from the same place where they signed on January 13, the road map for dialogue and reconciliation ... a new agreement for a ceasefire and the development of the peace process was signed ..."

The authority indicated that the details of the agreement will be known during "a press conference at midday tomorrow, Wednesday, in Piazza Sant'Egidio in central Rome, in the presence of representatives of various delegations and mediators from our community."
