The statement of the interior ministry revealed that the four prisoners were held in terrorism cases, and they escaped from the central prison after they killed 2 policemen from the guards '

" The prisoners killed two national guardsmen and wounded two others,"

The ministry asked in its statement the citizens if they have any new information about the escapers.
''We require the people to report any information that could help find the fugitives." the statement said

"The National Guard has tightened control of the prison and immediately launched the hunt for the fugitives," the statement said, without identifying the fugitives

Mauritania remained a strong security and regional CT partner for the United States in 2019.  Despite continued terrorist violence in neighboring Mali and regional threats that included those against Mauritania, the country has not suffered a terrorist attack on its soil since 2011
