The explosion of a liquefied gas tanker in Boksburg, east of the city of Johannesburg, led to ten dead and about forty injured.

Early Sunday, the truck was stuck under a bridge near a hospital and houses in a residential neighborhood.

Joe Bala said in an interview with reporters at a hospital near the scene of the explosion that "the toll was ten dead yesterday and this morning it became 15" dead.

William Ntladi, spokesman for the emergency department in this area, said that half of the injured were in serious condition, 15 others were seriously injured but in a stable condition, while six firefighters suffered minor injuries.

"We received a call at about 07.50 and firefighters set off to extinguish the beginning of a fire, but then, unfortunately, the truck exploded,"Ntladi said.

Amateur videos posted on social media show a huge fireball exploding under the bridge. It seems that the height of the tank truck did not allow it to cross the place.

The spokesman added that the tank was filled with 60 thousand liters of liquefied gas used especially in stoves and arrived from the southeast of the country, explaining that the truck driver was injured and taken to the hospital.
