Armed Chadian groups infiltrated the common border with the Sudan, resulting in the death of 18 Sudanese, following which the Sudanese Minister for Foreign Affairs in charge of Ali al-Sadik met today, the Ambassador of the Republic of Chad to the Sudan, and conveyed to him an official letter of protest.
According to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), "the Sudanese Minister conveyed to the Ambassador of Chad Khartoum's protest and condemnation of the incident that took place on August 3, in Western Darfur State, following the entry into Sudanese territory of infiltrators from Chad, killing and wounding a number of Sudanese citizens and stealing hundreds of heads from camels and returning to Chad."
The Sudanese Foreign Minister demanded that "Chad make an effort to apprehend the infiltrators and return the stolen items to its people in the Sudan as soon as possible".
For his part, the Chadian ambassador stressed the depth of fraternal relations between his country and the Sudan, stressing that "Chad will spare no effort to maintain and develop these relations in the interest of security, peace and stability on both sides of the two countries."
Under the chairmanship of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the Security and Defence Council of the Sudan held an urgent meeting against the backdrop of the incursion of armed groups from Chad into Sudanese territory.
The Council had expressed its concern at the evolution of the crisis and its descent into a social conflict that had its dimensions and repercussions both internally and externally, directed at strengthening the capabilities and role of the Sudanese Chadian joint forces and controlling movements on the border between the two countries, including herdsmen's movements, monitoring various activities and applying official procedures, as was the case with the Chadian side.
The Council also affirmed its concern for the safety and security of citizens, the protection of their property and the preservation of the country's territory, while noting the depth of bilateral relations between the Sudan and Chad and the need to preserve them.
