Sputniks will launch, next March, five satellites, equipped with cameras to take pictures of the Earth's surface.

The National Technology Initiative Association said that the mentioned satellites will allow the use of special devices to search for people and track moving or stationary objects, such as shipping containers. Compared to devices currently operating on satellites, the new devices will run faster and cheaper. It will also be possible to send data back from remote, rugged and hard-to-reach locations that are not covered by optical fiber networks. In the future, it will be possible to search for the missing even if they do not have cell phones.

The association stated that the documents related to the project were submitted to the Russian Ministry of Trade and Industry on October 29.

The new project will reduce the costs of obtaining the aforementioned services by 10-15 times, compared to its current size.

This very fact stimulates the emergence of a large number of projects, primarily inexpensive low-orbit satellite communication groups, which in the next seven or ten years could put pressure on the conventional systems currently in use.
