Geologists at the American Center of Meteorology issued warnings of the consequences of the earthquake with expected tsunami waves, as the earthquake's strength exceeded seven degrees and eight points on the Richter scale.

The German Center for Geosciences Research said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers near the city of Kahramanmaraş.
