After the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo published "insulting" cartoons of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran warned the French government of a decisive response

In a special issue today, the magazine published cartoons of Khamenei, the highest political and religious figure in Iran, and the owner of the final word in Supreme politics.

The drawings came in the context of a contest announced by the magazine in support of the protests that have been taking place in Iran since September 16 in the wake of the death of the young woman Mahsa Amini following her arrest by the morality police for not adhering to strict dress codes.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian wrote on Twitter that"the insulting and indecent act initiated by a French magazine against a political and religious authority will not pass without a decisive and effective response".

"We will not allow the French government to go beyond its borders. They have definitely chosen the wrong path,"he said.

In December, the magazine launched an" international cartoon contest "for Khamenei with the aim of"supporting Iranians who are fighting for their freedom".

Hundreds, including dozens of members of the security forces, were killed during the protests, during which anti-authorities slogans were raised. Thousands have also been arrested on the sidelines of the movements, a large part of which Iranian officials consider to be "riots" behind which the "enemies" of the Islamic Republic are behind.

Several Western countries, including France, expressed support for the protests, criticizing the Iranian authorities ' handling of them.

The weekly published the cartoons in a special issue to commemorate the anniversary of an attack on its offices in Paris on the seventh of January 2015, carried out by two gunmen linked to Al-Qaeda, who said it was revenge for the publication of cartoons deemed offensive to the Prophet Muhammad.
