For security reasons, after espionage concerns, and in a step considered the first in which the US authorities are taking such a step, the United States banned the sale and

import of new telecommunications equipment from five Chinese companies, including: Huawei and ZTE, following what it described as "concerns about national security".

Among other listed companies are "Hikvision","Dahua", "hetera", which manufactures video surveillance equipment and two-way radio systems.

In turn, Hikvision responded by saying that its products do not pose any security threat to the United States.

"The decision will do nothing to protect the national security of the United States, but it will cause more damage to it and more cost to American small businesses, local authorities, school districts, and individual consumers to protect themselves, their homes, businesses, and property,"she said.

Huawei and other companies have previously denied providing data to the Chinese government.

The US Federal Communications Commission said its members voted unanimously to adopt the new rules.

Committee Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said in a statement that "the FCC is committed to protecting our national security by ensuring that unreliable communications equipment is not authorized for use within our borders".

"These new rules are an important part of our ongoing actions to protect the American people from national security threats related to telecommunications,"she added.

Since the ban is not retroactive, listed companies can continue to sell products that were previously approved for sale in the United States.

But the Federal Communications Commission said it was seeking comment on future revisions to the rules on equipment that has already been authorized for import or sale, which means that it is also possible to cancel existing licenses in the future.

"The United States, without any evidence, continues to violate national security and state power to suppress Chinese enterprises,"Zhao Lijian, a spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry, said in June 2021.
