In an event that bets on finding solutions to the problems plaguing the planet , Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi opened today, Monday, the cop-27 climate conference, which is being held in Sharm el-Sheikh, at the level of leaders

The presidential segment will be attended by 110 world leaders, heads of government, international figures and experts.

In his opening speech, the Egyptian president called this summit the "summit of implementation", calling for action to find solutions to environmental problems.

"We must ask in response to the concerns of millions whether what we aspire to achieve is within the scope of what is possible,"he said.

Sisi stressed a number of points:

- The world has become a stage for a continuous display of human suffering in its most severe form and this suffering must end.

- He called for providing the necessary funding to developing countries in order to support climate adaptation efforts.

- Egypt has adopted a national strategy to confront climate change by relying on renewable energy and clean transport.

For his part, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said:

- The clock is moving forward, we are in a war that we are losing as gases continue to be emitted and as the Earth continues to heat up.

- Despite the crises, bloodshed and all their consequences, we cannot accept that we should not focus on climate change.

- Any warming of the earth above 1.5 degrees is extremely dangerous.

- All the countries of the group of twenty should be aware of the great danger.

- I call for the conclusion of a pact between developed and developing countries not to exceed 1.5 earth temperatures.

- America and China have a special responsibility to make efforts to translate this charter into reality.

- About 3 billion people live in regions suffering from the consequences of climate change.

For his part, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, president of the United Arab Emirates, in his speech during the cop27 climate summit, stressed the continued focus in the UAE on reducing emissions in the oil and energy sector.

The UAE President added in his speech during the opening of the summit:

- I would like to thank the brotherly Arab Republic of Egypt and the secretariat-general of the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change for organizing the twenty-seventh session of the conference of the parties.

- We will host the COP28 conference in Dubai Expo in 2023.

- We have launched a strategic partnership with the United States to invest 100 billion dollars in the production of clean energy.

- Our world is facing complex challenges, including climate change, which is affecting security and stability.

The opening session of the summit will witness speeches by a number of leaders and prominent figures, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, which will host the next climate summit (cop28), and the president of Senegal in his capacity as chairman of the African Union.

The activities of the presidential segment will be held over two days, where a number of leaders and leaders participating in the meetings will make statements, and 6 round tables will be held over the two days, in which President Sisi will participate in a number of them in the presence of heads of state and government from around the world.

President Sisi will also participate in a number of international events within the framework of the cop-27 climate conference, including an event with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to launch the second edition of the "Green Middle East" Initiative summit, and an event with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, where the Cyprus initiative to address the effects of climate change will be launched.

It is expected that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will hold a large number of bilateral meetings with the leaders and leaders of the participating countries during the conference to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and the countries of the world, as well as to discuss international and regional issues, especially ways to confront climate change and reach an international consensus to turn pledges into reality.

Egypt has launched the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, which focuses on a number of principles:

- Achieving sustainable economic growth and reducing emissions in various sectors

- Building resilience and adaptability to climate change

- Mitigating the negative impacts associated with climate change and improving the governance and management of work in the field of climate change

- Strengthening the infrastructure for financing climate activities, scientific research, technology transfer, knowledge management and raising awareness to combat climate change.
