In a report, one of the US newspapers uncovered documents purporting to be issued by Huawei China, which says it was involved in Chinese - accused espionage activities. According to the US newspaper, the documents indicate Huawei was involved in Chinese surveillance efforts.
The newspaper reviewed 100 PowerBoit presentations and claimed to have been posted on Huawei's website until they were removed last year.
According to the US newspaper, among the slides translated into English, a technique that can help the authorities analyze audio recordings, by comparing it to a large database of recorded audio prints, is supposed to help with national security issues.
"The content of this segment could be used to identify individuals involved in political opposition, Hong Kong and Taiwan issues, and race relations discussions."
Another section shows "a comprehensive prison control system, apparently implemented in prisons in Inner Mongolia and Shanxi Province, as well as detention centres in the" Xinjiang "region, for which detainees of the concentration camps, mostly members of the Aigor group, are accused of forced labour and torture, and detained without charge."
Another presentation details how Huawei's surveillance techniques have been used in Xinjiang since 2017, and how facial recognition has helped to arrest "a number of criminal suspects."
The newspaper acknowledged that it could not determine who or when the slides had been shown, but noted that many had been created in 2014 and had been amended as recently as last year 2020.
On the other hand, a spokesperson for Huawei said in his statements that the company "has no knowledge of the projects mentioned in its report," and confirmed that it provides "cloud platform services that conform to common industry standards."
