Today, the United States congratulated Egypt on its victory in hosting the 2022 COP27 climate conference. The United States Special Climate Envoy, John Kerry, tweeted on his Twitter account: "Congratulations to Egypt as the new host of the COP27, as well as to the Emirates for hosting the COP28."

Kerry added that "the United States looks forward to working with both nations to continue the progress made in Glasgow."

Egypt will formally host the forthcoming COP 27 Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Climate Change Convention at Sharm el-Sheikh in 2022, after Egypt was announced as the host of the next session of the Conference at the current Glasgow Conference.

Speaking at the Glasgow Conference on behalf of the Egyptian Government, Dr. Jasmine Fouad, Minister of the Environment, expressed her appreciation to all delegations, particularly the African parties, for their confidence and support in Egypt's hosting of the upcoming Conference of the Parties and for bringing together the world's efforts to meet the challenge of climate change, the effects of which do not divide nations and require active, dynamic and cooperative multilateral action among all. We hope to make progress in priority areas such as climate finance, adaptation, loss and damage, to keep pace with the progress that the world hopes to make in efforts to mitigate and achieve carbon neutrality.
