In response to news from some of the English - speaking Arabic media, the project allegedly stopped. Russian company Rosatom said on its official Facebook account that

"Under what was recently published by some English - speaking Arab media about the alleged suspension of the Nuclear Hyena Plant project, we would like to confirm that our bilateral cooperation remains as strong as ever."

The statement continued that "the recent visit of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Nuclear Plants Authority (NPPA), Dr. Amjad, to the Rosatom facility, confirms the continued commitment of the two countries to the implementation of this historic project."

The first nuclear power plant in Egypt's history will consist of four 1200 megawatt power units and will operate Russian advanced VVER- 1200 third-generation nuclear reactors that meet the highest safety standards.
