In a phenomenon that occurs once a year with the winter solstice, hundreds of tourists watched a special sunrise over the city of Luxor, on Wednesday, where the first Gilded rays of the sun lined up with the axis of the Karnak Temple.

Tourists present said that the experience made them feel amazing, especially as the first Gilded rays of the sun crossed the courtyard of Amon-Ra in the temple.

Tashas fizals, who traveled to Egypt from Southern Africa, said he was "still amazed" by what he saw, adding that it would take his mind a few years to fully realize what he saw today.

Sheetal Mehta, an American tourist who watched the sunrise with her husband and son, said, "it is said that the stars are lined up, and today, the sun lined up for us in a complete way".

The shortest day of the year marks the day of the winter solstice, and the solstice, in turn, marks the beginning of the astronomical winter.

Luxor is located on the banks of the Nile, about 650 kilometers south of the capital Cairo, and houses a large collection of pharaonic temples and tombs, most notably the Tomb of Tutankhamun.

The construction of the Karnak Temple was completed more than 2000 years ago.
