Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the world number one, won his first Wimbledon title, the third grand slam in tennis, with revenge on the second Serbian Novak Djokovic when he beat him 1-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 on Sunday in a marathon final lasting 4 hours and 42 minutes.

The Spaniard said after his coronation: “it's a dream come true for me. Winning is great, but even if I had lost, I would have been proud of myself to play in the final of a major tournament in front of a legend in our sport,”he said.

The Spaniard praised Djokovic, saying: “she has always inspired me a lot. I started playing tennis watching you. Since my birth you have been scoring courses and tournaments. It's amazing”.

As for Djokovic, he said that the Spaniard achieved a well-deserved victory, saying, “first of all, I would like to congratulate Carlos and his team on this victory. It's amazing how quickly Carlos copes on grass courts, and this adds to the magnificence of his achievement. He was the best at the crucial times of the match and did great things in the last half to decide the match”.

Karas also deprived Djokovic of equaling the record in the number of titles at Wimbledon, namely with 8 titles, which remained in the possession of Swiss Roger Federer, as well as equaling the record in the number of Grand Slam titles in the men's and women's categories held by Australian Margaret Court (24 titles).

The title is the second major for lacaras after he was crowned at the Flushing Meadows Championship last year, and he also became the third Spaniard to be crowned on grass courts in the English capital after Manolo Santana in 1966 and Rafael Nadal in 2008 and 2010.

The 20-year-old alcaras became the third youngest player to win Wimbledon after German Boris Becker and Swede Bjorn Borg.

With this coronation, Karas will retain the top of the world rankings for a new week.

Karas, who retained the top of the world rankings, also earned the Serb his first loss on the main court at Wimbledon since falling to Czech Tomas Berdych in 2013, ending his opponent's 34 consecutive victories, and deprived him of winning his third major title this year after Australia and Roland Garros, in his quest to become the first player since 1969 to lift the four Grand Slam trophies in one year.

Djokovic beat Karas in the semi-finals of Roland Garros on his way to winning his third title in the French capital, which qualified him to be alone in the record number of major titles with 23 titles after he was equal with Nadal.

Djokovic, who was playing his 35th Grand Slam final and the most experienced on grass courts, started the match strongly and led 5-nil in the first set before finishing it 6-1 in 35 minutes.

Kars began to gradually enter the atmosphere of the match starting from the first half when he broke the Serb's serve at the beginning of the second set and then led 2-nil, but “Djokovic” immediately returned the greeting, equalizing the numbers 2-2.

The tie remained the master of the situation until the two players fought a tiebreak during which the Serb advanced 3-nil, but the Spaniard caught up with him, equalizing the score 3-3 before ending it in his favor 8-6 and thus won the set 7-6. It was the first time Djokovic had lost a playoff at Wimbledon this year after winning six times in previous matches, and Karas also stopped a streak of 15 consecutive playoff wins for the Serb in various major tournaments.

Djokovic's performance, seeking to win his fifth consecutive title at Wimbledon, declined a lot in the third set and made many mistakes, so the Spaniard took advantage of them to the best and decided it 6-1, knowing that the fourth half alone lasted about 26 minutes.

Djokovic regained some of his brilliance in the fourth set, won it 6-3 and forced a decisive fifth set.

The turning point of the decisive set was in the third game when the Spaniard broke the Serb's serve and led 2-1, then 3-1 and kept his lead until he ended in favor 6-4 and thus the match in 4 hours and 42 minutes.

It is the second longest Wimbledon final after Djokovic and Federer in 2019, when it lasted 4 hours and 57 minutes.
