Milan-Italy-January 29, 2023

Defending champion Milan has continued its disastrous results in recent times

He suffered a new humiliating loss when he fell to his guest Sassuolo 2-5 on Sunday in the twentieth stage of the Italian Football League.

It is the third humiliating loss in a row for Milan after the first one against its rival and neighbor Inter zero-3 in the local Super Cup in the Saudi capital Riyadh, and then in front of the host Lazio with a clean quad in the nineteenth stage.

It is also the sixth match in a row in which the Lombardy club fails to win in various competitions, including a loss to Torino Zero-1 after the extension in the price of the final of the local cup competition, freezing its balance at 38 points in fourth place, and it was he who wished to return to the track of victories to revive his slim hopes of defending the title.

Milan is now threatening to drop to sixth place if Lazio beats its guest Fiorentina, and Roma beats its host Napoli, who are the leaders later, knowing that the latter has a chance to expand the difference to 15 points from Coach Stefano Pioli's men if they beat the capital's team and Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho.

"We have to respond, maybe we won't win the title again but we have to fight to qualify for the Champions League," Pioli told Italian network Sky.

"Since we drew with Roma, we haven't been able to do things right tactically or mentally,"he added.

The loss came before two heated summits for Milan, the first against its neighbor Inter next Sunday in the league, and the second against the English Tottenham on February 14 in the first leg of the Champions League competition, and before that it will host Turin in the league on the tenth of next month.

Sassuolo went ahead with two early goals scored by Frenchmen Gregoire DevRel (19) and Davide frassetti (21), before French international Olivier Giroud reduced the score in the 24th minute.

Domenico Biradri restored the difference in the first half by scoring the third goal for the guests (30), then another Frenchman Armand Laurenti was strengthened by the fourth (48 from the penalty spot) and Brazilian Mateus Henrique by the fifth (76), before Belgian international Divock Origi scored the second for the hosts (81).

Sassuolo temporarily climbed to sixteenth place with 20 points.

Juventus will also later play with Monza, with the stage concluding on Monday with Udinese's meeting with Verona.
