Real Madrid striker Vinicius Jr. has accused La Liga officials of "doing nothing" about tackling racist abuse from the stands during matches, after he was targeted by Valladolid fans on Friday.

Vinicius posted a statement on the internet after videos on social media showed fans shouting abuse and throwing objects at the Brazilian star in the meeting between Real Madrid and Valladolid, which ended 2-0 in favor of the "Merengue".

"Racists continue to go to stadiums and watch the biggest club in the world and La Liga still does nothing about their abuse,"Vinicius wrote on Twitter.

"I will continue to play with my head held high, celebrating my victories and the victories of Madrid," he added, as quoted by the British newspaper "The Guardian".

The Spanish league issued a statement condemning all forms of hate speech and said it was following cases of racism in the game.

La Liga president Javier Tebas responded to Vinicius with a strongly worded tweet, calling his accusations "unfair and untrue".
