After the end of the 2022 World Cup, the European Club Championships return to their competitions, and many fans considered Thursday night, the real return of club competitions, when the "summit" of the poles of England, Liverpool and Manchester City will be held.
Manchester City hosts rivals Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium in the round of 16 match of the League Cup.
It is expected that the match will witness great excitement, especially with the return of the most prominent stars of both teams from participating in the World Cup, and with some others in the camp of the latter due to not qualifying for the World Cup.
Egyptian Mohamed Salah will be in the Liverpool ranks, while Manchester City's squad included Norwegian top scorer Erling Haaland and Algerian star Riyad Mahrez, all of whom did not participate in the World Cup, which means they are in perfect physical shape thanks to a great rest.
Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez, who played in the World Cup final a few days ago, and Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, who played in the final with the French national team, will be absent from the meeting.
The English Premier League returns to competition next Monday, where the round of 17 will kick off.
