A source today stated that the FBI, asking Olympic athletes to participate in the Beijing Winter Olympics this month, left their personal mobile phones at home, and used other disposable phones later.
An FBI source said in a notice: "We urge all athletes to keep their personal phones at home and use temporary phones while participating in the Games. In some Western countries, National Olympic Committees (NOCs) also advise their players to leave personal devices at home or use temporary phones because of cyber security concerns. "
The FBI added that it is important for game participants to be "vigilant" and "maintain best practices in their digital networks and environments."
The warning comes amid growing concerns by US national security officials about Chinese espionage and intellectual property theft, and US intelligence officials have warned that China has created advanced technical surveillance space within its borders, covered by facial recognition cameras and technology.
