Arab missions to the Olympics were able to win five historic medals on a historic day presented by Egypt.
By achieving its first gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the Egyptian expedition strengthened the stock of Arabs participating in the tournament, along with a silver medal.
Egypt's gold came through karate player Frial Ashraf, who beat Azerbaijan champion Arina Zaritska 2-0 after she managed to get a Yoko point 28 seconds before the end of the match and was followed by another point, in weight contests over 61.
Egyptian player Ahmed El-Gendi was able to make history, achieving a silver medal after he was second in the modern pentathlon competitions, after British Joseph Chung who scored gold, and before South Korean John Wong.
The soldier scored only 1482 points over the British gold medalist, while the third scored 1470.
Egypt has participated in the largest mission in its history at the current Tokyo Olympics, with 120 players, and has achieved 6 gold medals, silver medals and 4 bronze medals so far.
In karate competitions, Saudi karate player Tarek Hamadi was able to earn the silver medal after losing the champion of Iran in the final match.
Hamadi was too close to the gold medal after advancing to his rival by a score of 4-1 two minutes before the finish, but the referee fired him for an illegal blow to his rival and considered him the loser of the match.
Bahraini female athlete Kalkidan Gizahigan also won the silver medal for the 10,000 metre race of the women's enemy, among the athletics competitions at the Olympics.
Gizahigan recorded a time of 29 minutes 56.18 seconds, slightly more than the Dutch gold winner Sivan Hassan, who had a time of 29 minutes and 55.33 seconds.
Qatar won the bronze medal in men's beach volleyball, after winning Latvia 2-0.
Sunday, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will conclude with a number of games, such as volleyball, boxing, men's marathon, water polo, athletics, cycling, etc., with the closing ceremony to take place at Tokyo Olympic Stadium in the Japanese capital at 1 p.m. Cairo time.
