France and Barcelona striker Antoine Griezmann announced today, Thursday, the end of his business relationship with the Chinese company Huawei, in protest over its treatment of Uyghur Muslims.

"I announce the end of the partnership that binds me to this company immediately," wrote Griezmann, the 2018 World Cup winner with France, in a statement posted on his Instagram page.

This came after the Chinese smart phone company revealed an application that reveals the faces of Uyghur Muslims and reports them to the authorities in China, knowing that the Uighurs are a Muslim minority in China that suffers from constant repression by the authorities in the country.

UN experts and activists say that at least one million Uighurs and members of other Muslim minorities have been held in camps in the vast Xinjiang region in northwest China.

For its part, China describes these camps as vocational training centers to help stop "religious extremism" and teach "new work skills."
