The China Space Corporation reported that the "Chang'e-5" probe, which landed on December 1 on the surface of the moon, has begun collecting lunar soil samples.
According to the official page of the China Foundation, the "Chang'e-5" probe, which consists of landing and take-off platforms, began at 04:53 on December 2 Beijing time to dig and collect samples of moon soil.
And immediately after landing on the moon's surface, the probe charged its batteries, including that of the drilling rig.
The probe is also expected to collect samples of moon rocks on the surface of the area in which it landed, using a special robotic hand. The rock samples are expected to weigh two kilograms after they are collected.
These samples will be transported later on board the probe to Earth, where Chinese scientists and engineers will study them in preparation for establishing a scientific station on the surface of the moon.
It is reported that the "Chang'e-5" probe was launched a week ago to the moon and returned to Earth after 3 weeks with lunar soil samples.
The Deputy Director General of the Russian Cosmos Space Corporation, Sergey Saveliev, congratulated the Chinese colleagues on the success of the "Chang'e-5" probe landing on the surface of the moon, describing it as a historical event.
