The Indian Ministry of Defense announced today, Monday, that India and the United States have signed a military agreement to share satellite data, which will strengthen the strategic relations between the two countries.

The agreement will allow India access to topographic, maritime, aviation and airspace data in order to increase the accuracy of weapons such as missiles and drones.

The agreement will be signed during a visit by US Defense Secretary Mark Esper to India, where he has arrived, accompanied by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to conduct a high-level security dialogue seen as part of efforts to counter China's growing tendency towards hegemony in the region.

"The two ministers expressed their satisfaction at the signing of the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement on Geospatial Cooperation," the Indian Ministry of Defense said after Esper's talks with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.
