The Information and Mass Communication Office of the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the third navigation satellite of the new generation "GLONASS-К" has reached its scheduled orbit.

It is reported that the satellite "GLONASS-" was launched at 22.08 on Sunday, October 25, from Plesetsk Space Airport by the Soyuz-2.1B transport missile, and the acceleration unit "Frigate", which separated with the moon from the third stage of the missile at 22.19 hours and placed it in its scheduled orbit.

It should be noted that this launch was the twelfth in Russia in 2020 and the fifth from the Plesetsk space airport.

It is the third satellite of the "GLONASS-" group of the new generation, as it launched its first satellite in February 2011 and the second in December 2014 and is operating according to its scheduled program since February 2016. The third satellite, according to the producing company, will undergo the same tests of the previous two satellites, but it is distinguished from them "by increasing the percentage Nationally produced ingredients in it. "

The satellites “GLONASS-” and “GLONASS-2” differ from the satellites of the previous generation “GLONASS-بعد” in the number of navigation signals emitted from them (five for GLONASS-and seven for nine for “GLONASS-” and “GLONASS-2”) The service life of the new satellites is 10 years.

This brings the number of satellites of the Russian GLONASS navigation system currently operating in space to 28 satellites.
