US Vice President Mike Pence said that the threats facing the United States in outer space, "are increasing from Russia and China."
"In fact, the United States is facing new threats in space from countries such as China and Russia. These threats are increasing," he said during a ceremony at the White House yesterday marking the first anniversary of the establishment of the US space force.
"We were reminded of that this week, when Russia launched another anti-satellite missile," Pence said.
Pence stressed that, the United States "strives for peace by force."
In addition, the US Vice President announced that he would later officially call the Space Force personnel "sentinels" (for example, soldiers in the ground forces or sailors in the navy).
This decision sparked many sarcastic comments and jokes, due to the similarity with the American fictional comedy film "Guardians of the Galaxy".
